1. Taronga Zoo and Sydney Sea Life Aquarium

For kids to enjoy, any activity that involves animals is always a big hit! It thus goes without saying that if you want to have a fun day trip with children, head to the zoo. And in Sydney, what better place to start with, than the Taronga Zoo?


Situated right on the Sydney Harbour on Bradleys Head Road, the zoo is home to over 4000 animals of 350 different species. Visitors can see Sumatran tigers, Asian elephants, giraffes, meerkats, gorillas and chimpanzees, kangaroos, koalas, bears and many other creatures here. This visit will be educational as well as entertaining for your kids.

The Taronga Zoo is open all year round.

If you and the kids are interested in marine life, head to the Sydney Sea Life Aquarium to discover over 700 species of fish and other aquatic animals. Functional since 1998, the aquarium boasts of 14 themed zones and a display of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Seal watching is one of the popular attractions here and kids truly love it.

2. Luna Amusement Park

Next on the list for a family outing is definitely an amusement park. The Luna Amusement Park is a heritage-listed amusement park that has a host of rides, games, eateries and concerts you can attend. 

Permission to get on the rides is based on height and that will decide which rides (yellow rides, red rides or blue rides) your kids or you, can go on. There are rides for children of all ages; even pre-schoolers. Apart from the classic Ferris wheel, dodgem cars, carousel and roller coasters, Luna Park has a mirror maze and offers venues to host kid's birthday parties too.

Looking at Mr Moon's open mouth that serves as the entrance to the park, will leave your kids smiling and excited all day!

3. Royal Botanic Gardens

A day in the lap of nature is much more beneficial for kids than spending time at shopping malls or cinemas. The Royal Botanic Gardens are 30 hectares of a sprawling horticulture site and recreational space where entry is free. Kids will have ample place to run around, play or roll on the ground to their heart's content. You can also go on the 90-minute guided Aboriginal Heritage Tour and discover the origins of the land. 


The Calyx is a magnificent horticulture space where exhibitions are held regularly. The spectacular views from the garden, of the Sydney Opera House or the Sydney Harbour Bridge, can be the perfect background to your family photographs.

4. Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour is a beautiful pedestrian, recreational area on the waterfront, in the heart of Sydney. The Sea Life Aquarium and Wild Life Sydney Zoo are located here. The world's largest cinema screen IMAX, Madame Tussauds, shopping arcades and amazing dining options are some other attractions on the Harbour. After a day at the amusement park or botanic gardens, you can unwind at Darling Harbour and soak in the evening sights.

5. Australian National Maritime Museum

Located at Darling Harbour, the Australian National Maritime Museum is a delight for kids as well as adults. The museum showcases themed exhibitions, objects and tours that help you discover the naval history of Australia, the sailors and navigators of before and some history about the aboriginals.


Visitors also get an opportunity to board a naval submarine and also get on the replica of an 18th-century ship!

6. Manly Beach
